There are still lots of Buddy gifts to come in to the school office. They need to be in by next Wednesday please.


The exchange will take place on Tuesday 13th December at school. Gifts must be to a value of no more than $10 and wrapped in festive paper and named with the childs name and house (Tui, Kiwi or Pukeko) and brought to the school office by Wednesday 7th December at the latest please.

We have sad but happy news to share with you this morning.


At the end of the school year we will be saying farewell to Ms. Bernie Perkins who has secured a teaching position in the English department at New Plymouth Boys High School.


We wish Bernie all the very best. She will be missed!


Ms. Ana Southee will be replacing Ms. Perkins in He Kākano for the 2023 school year.

With the Junior Finals Day shifting to Friday December 16th, the Waitara Night Markets will also be operating that evening at the sports hub as well, so it would be a great way to finish the season off with an opportunity to head over to the markets for a kai with the whānau.

It has come to our attention that we have mixed some dates/days a little in this extremely busy time of year, arohamai.


Tuesday 29th November – Home and School Meeting, 2pm at school.


Friday 2nd December – Yr 5 & 6 Tough Kid 2022, AMP Showgrounds Hawera.


Tuesday 6th December – Fancy Dress Dance Rehearsal, 9am sharp, Knox Church Waitara. (Children will need to be dropped off to Knox Church and they will be bused back to school after the rehearsal).


Wednesday 7th December – Year 6 Day Out


Thursday 8th December – Music students Concert – 11.30am at school; Fancy Dress Dance Evening – 6pm, Knox Church, Waitara.


Friday 9th December – Disco at school during the school day.


Monday 12th December – Reports sent home.


Tuesday 13th December – Buddy Gift Exchange at school. Final Assembly and Prizegiving, 5pm (BYO Picnic dinner. Assembly starts at 6pm)


Wednesday 14th December – Last full day of the school year.


Thursday 15th December – Last day of term 4, school closes at 12pm.

Kia ora whānau


Once again the weather is not looking ideal for touch and it’s likely to take a turn for the worse later this afternoon. As per usual we will post up on our facebook page by 2pm today in the event that touch will be cancelled.


Should touch not go ahead today, we will look to schedule in a day for possible catch up games – possible dates when this may be will be sent out to schools next week.


Thank you for your patience, we hope our tamariki get back on the field soon.

Tomorrows (Thursday 24th) Cluster Athletics at the TET Stadium in Inglewood has been cancelled.

Pool keys are now available for the season ending 17 March 2023 from the school office Monday to Friday before 1pm.


One key per household. $50 for the season.


A Pool useage contract needs to be read and signed before keys are issued and all key holders must live in school zone.

Our Senior Students had a brilliant time with Paul Rangiwahia this morning. He shared his art with them, and spoke about following your ‘head, heart and gut’.


We look forward to seeing our adult community this evening, to hear Paul speak about wellbeing on a more ‘mature’ level.

Due to high demand, we will be running another FREE evening parenting course, called Parenting Solutions.  This will be run from 6-8 pm, once a week, for six weeks, start date of Wednesday 30 November.  This parenting course will explore parenting tamariki of all ages, so please invite any of your clients to attend who you think may benefit from this.  All whanau are very welcome.     


Please note that we will be in our new premises by then, at 38 Liardet Street, which is upstairs, on the corner of Devon and Liardet, opposite Aged Concern. Our entranceway is next to Annettes Dress Shop (on Liardet Street).

Please keep the grocery items for our raffle coming in.


We need lots of delicious baking for our Cake Stall. This can be brought in on Tuesday morning to the staffroom. 


Reminder to the Dad’s/Uncles/Grandads to get their bake on this weekend for the Men’s Cake Auction. Can these cakes please be dropped to the office on Tuesday morning with a name on them.


Our Year 5 and 6 stall holders are wanting donations of chocolate blocks for one of their stalls too please.


Eftpos will be available on the day.

These raffle’s will be drawn the day after pets day.
If you want more tickets to sell over the school holidays you can get these from the school office.

Send your children to school with appropriate gear for running in and getting wet and colourful!
We will start with He Puāwai at 1pm, followed by each classroom in 10 minute increments after that.
Every child will be offered a sausage and bread from the Blue Light BBQ run by the Police once they finish their race. They can then go home after their run if you wish.
A great tip-BRING A TOWEL to sit on in the car on the way home!
We look forward to seeing you here for an afternoon of fun.

Just a reminder that the Home and School require your delicious home backing Friday morning to sell at our cluster cross country food stall. All baking donations can be dropped to the school staff room Friday morning.

Mōrena senior classes. Just a reminder that we are wanting to walk the cross country course today in preparation for Friday’s event. Please bring some sort of wet weather jacket and either gumboots or sneakers for walking in. If it stays a light drizzle then we will be able to get out there still!
