BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Huirangi School is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of five elected trustees, a staff representative and the Principal. Trustees are elected for a three-year term. Elections are held every 18 months as the school runs a staggered cycle to ensure continuity of good governance.
THE ROLE OF THE BOARD
The Board is responsible for governing the school and in consultation with parents, staff and students sets the educational vision, values and direction through the School Charter. There are two Board meetings a term, which are advertised in our school newsletter.
THE SCHOOL CHARTER
The Charter includes long-term goals and annual targets for the strategic management of curriculum, personnel, finance, property and administration that ensure the provision of a safe, inclusive environment and quality education for all students.
The Principal and staff are responsible for delivering on the Charter and annual targets, supported by the Board of Trustees.
Educational leadership and management of the school are the responsibility of the Principal.
ANNUAL REPORT
Each year the Board prepares a report that includes a summary of the progress the school has made in relation to goals and targets that support student achievement.
COMMUNICATION
The Board welcomes communication from parents in relation to the overall governance of the school. Contact can be made via the school office at Ph. 06 7520606. Copies of meeting minutes are available at the school office.
SCHOOL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Our school is governed by policies and procedures. The School Board is responsible for creating and reviewing our policies and procedures. The school works on a subscription basis with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies that have been well researched and follow the Ministry of Education National Administration Guidelines.
The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc. SchoolDocs updates modify or create policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team.
Our Board of Trustees has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented.
